Will my US credit card debt be included in Canada?

I worked and lived in New York in 2013. I lost my job and moved back to Canada earlier this year. I still haven’t found a job and can’t make my mortgage payment, or credit cards or even household bills every month. One of my credit cards is from the US. If I file for bankruptcy here in Canada, does that erase my US credit card or will it be excluded ? < Posted, New York

  1. That question is better addressed to a bankruptcy attorney in Canada. I am not familiar with Canadian bankruptcy law. I believe that you would be able to discharge that debt no matter where it originated. If you would have moved to a different US state, then the issue becomes which jurisdiction you can file in and which state exemption laws apply. Sorry couldn’t be more helpful.
