I filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2000 and on my credit report it states that it will continue on record until 2010. I thought it was only supposed to be seven years? Also some of the things that have been discharged are still on there and I was wondering if I have to wait the ten years for them all to come off my record?
Bankruptcy and your credit report

Different credit reporting agencies have different policies. According to Equifax, one of the largest credit reporting agencies, "Public records. Matters of public record obtained from government sources such as courts of law -- including liens, bankruptcies, and overdue child support -- may appear on your credit report. Most public record information stays on your credit report for 7 years." Other credit reporting agencies may report items for longer.
If you believe an item appears on your credit report inaccurately, you should contact the credit reporting agency with full details and ask them to remove it, or put a note that the item was included in your bankruptcy.
