Bankruptcy-Dismissed/Discharged

What is the difference in a dismissed or discharged bankruptcy?

3 Comments:

  • Discharge means that your bankruptcy is completed, and your unsecured debts are discharged, meaning eliminated.

Dismissed means that the bankruptcy never happened in the first place. For example, if you tried to go bankrupt but were not insolvent (because you had sufficient assets or cash flow to repay the creditors on your own), your bankruptcy petition would be dismissed by the the court.
