hello
I returned to the United states in december of 2010 and I am filing chp 7 pro se but it's  possible that I may have to wait 180 before filing for chp 7. does any more know if this is true? I am living in NY. I did have a brief meeting with a lawyer but after discovering that his fee would be $3000 I decided to try to file pro se.

I did mentioned to him that I had just returned to the US and he did not say that was a problem. As a matter of fact, he told me that since I am not working I should try to file immediately before I fine a job.

My attorney told me that I should hold off getting a job or getting any income until after my meeting with the creditors (your only court appearance) because they can then change you to chapter 13 if  you have too much.

Of course you do need money to pay the attorney - mine was $1700 I used Geraci - lame commercials, but they know their stuff.
